LAST YEAR’S HIGHLIGHTS

Italian Harvest Festival at Idiom 25 – 26 February 2017

A taste of Italy returns to the countryside of Somerset West. A full weekend of activities is planned on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th February 2017 at Idiom’s spectacular new Tasting Centre overlooking the Helderberg mountains and False Bay. A carnival atmosphere will be created to entertain lovers of Italian lifestyle. Visitors will be able to enjoy food, vino, prosecco, Italian craft beer and a live band playing Italian and other music each afternoon. A highlight of the festival offering will be the sunset Opera concert on Saturday evening performed by the best young voices at the UCT Opera School. The Opera ticket also includes an Italian style aperitivo.

Day tickets for either the Saturday and Sunday session (10am-6pm) can be purchased online at www.webtickets.co.za for R150 per adult and R50 for kids aged 4-12. A separate ticket is required to attend the Opera performance although a combination Saturday day session and opera ticket is available.

Sunday is family day and is likely to see the Italian community out in full force.

The Cape Alfa Romeo Club will be bringing more than 30 vintage Alfa Spiders to the event. Vespa are also planning a Club scooter ride out to Idiom on the Sunday.

A large selection of Italian foods such as pastas, pizzas, Italian sausage and polenta will be on offer. Some of Cape Town’s Italian restaurants will also be participating with taste size portions of their signature dishes. Select from typical regional Italian dishes at the many food stalls as well as delicacies such as artisan breads, handmade pastas, ice-creams, pastries and other delicacies. Bring your shopping basket to fill up on salumi, prosciutti and formaggi (Italian charcuterie and cheeses) from the new deli point and other specialist vendors. Learn about the art of mozzarella making and what makes Italian coffee special.

The day ticket includes entry to the festival, an event program, a bottle of San Pellegrino or Acqua Panna water and access to the wine and Prosecco tasting areas where guests can work their way through Vinotria’s selection of imported Italian wines that will be open for tasting and buying. Compare these wines to Idiom’s locally grown Italian grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Primitivo and Pinot Grigio. A dedicated Prosecco and Aperol Spritz area will also be created for lovers of Italian bubbles.
