The Prescient Cape Bordeaux Red Blend Report 2023 is now live!

Strong overall quality

This year’s Cape Bordeaux Red Blend Report sponsored by multinational financial services company Prescient attracted 59 entries from 49 producers, and these were tasted blind (labels out of sight) by a three-person panel, scoring done according to the 100-point quality scale.

The Top 10 is as follows:

95
Allée Bleue L’Amour Toujours 2018
Constantia Glen Three 2020
Delaire Graff Botmaskop 2021 – Sylvain Best Overall

94
Journey’s End Cape Doctor The Red 2018
Vrede en Lust Boet Erasmus 2019
Zorgvliet Richelle 2019

93
Groot Constantia Gouverneurs Reserve 2020
Harry Hartman Coracle 2020
Idiom Bordicon “B” Blend 2018
Zonnebloem Lauréat 2020

“It’s a prestigious category and the overall quality was reassuringly high – 58% of the line-up rated 90-plus on the 100-point scale,” says Christian Eedes, editor of Winemag.co.za and panel chairman. “Viticultural and winemaking skills have never been better which is making for some accomplished wines. Prices are only set to rise, however, so wine lovers shouldn’t hesitate to stock their cellars.”

Delaire Graff, as producer of the wine judged best overall, wins a new 225-litre Sylvain Grande Reserve barrel worth €1 005 (the equivalent of R20 050 at the time of writing) from Tonnellerie Sylvain.
