IDIOM RESTAURANT TO OPEN ON FRIDAY EVENINGS FROM AUGUST
& MORE EVENTS, TASTINGS AND WINE OFFERS BELOW

Great news for locals! From today, 2nd of August, Idiom will stay open on Friday evenings for Aperitivo Hour and Sunset Dinner.
Some of you might have noticed that Idiom did not close this year for its customary 3-week winter break. Instead our restaurant team took turns to enjoy their well-earned breaks after a very busy summer season, meaning we could still remain open during the June-July local school holiday window. During this time we were even blessed with balmy, wind-free, postcard days late into June and it reminded us how spectacular early evenings can be at Idiom. In July even though the anticipated rains arrived, we managed to complete the enclosure of our entire restaurant patio area which should add a more protected terrace space going into season.

Apertivo Hour on a Friday kicks off from 17h30 until 18h30 (but you can arrive from 17h00) and for the month of August come and enjoy a Spritz, a glass of Prosecco, or a glass of our Heritage series wines on us before dinner. Our full 3 course menu priced at R595 a head excluding wines will be available for the extended hours on Fridays and guests will still be able to enjoy our current winter menu for the next couple of months. Our pizza menu will also be available.
Please arrive by latest 19h00 as the kitchen will take last orders at 19h30 during the winter months. Booking by calling 0218581088 or email reservations@idiom.co.za

CHEF SUGGESTIONS
Chef Jaco says that the biltong-spiced Ostrich Carpaccio and the Roman pasta dish ‘Cacio e Pepe’ (pecorino and trio of pepper) have been the most ordered dishes amongst the starters while the smoked Pork Belly, Confit Duck Leg, and Lamb Loin mains are all giving the traditional favourite, the Pira Braaied Beef fillet, a good run for its money.
The Beetroot-cured Salmon Gravadlax salad or the Butternut and Goats Cheese Rotolo followed by the Mushroom Risotto or the Sea Bass main course is a delicious suggestion for the non-meat eaters.
Book your table on the terrace or next to the fireplace for our first month of Friday sunset evenings. See you then!

SPECIAL EVENT!
VIETTI BAROLO MASTERCLASS & LUNCH @ IDIOM WINES
|
|
Sunday 4 August 2024 – 11am
This Sunday we have one of the most famous Piedmont wineries in town. Vietti, from Castiglione Falletto, is considered one of Italy’s benchmark Barolo producers. They are the original pioneers of single vineyards Barolos with the first vintages being released back in the 1960s.
Guided by our good friend, Vietti export manager Urs Vetter, we will taste several flights in this very special presentation, starting with their local varieties Arneis and Barbera as a warm up followed by the main act – the Vietti Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbaresco and Barolo wines. Now costing almost R4000 a bottle, the highlight will surely be the tasting and explanation of their single vineyard Barolos MGA crus, Lazzarito, Brunate, Rocche and Ravero! We will explore a horizonal of these crus, and then Urs will open some older vintages to see how special bottles of Barolo age!
The tasting will be followed by a lunch upstairs where we also will be able to compare the VIetti Nebbiolo to some special vintages of Idiom’s Nebbiolo from our vinoteque. A case of David vs Goliath. On Sunday we shall see!
Unfortunately we only have 8 tickets available for this special tasting on Sunday. If you are a Nebbiolo or Barolo fan, then this is a tasting that you cannot miss.
COST: R1995 pp | Limited seats available.

FEATURED WINE:
THE IDIOM ZINFANDEL
Our Zinfandel recently won Double Gold at Gilbert & Gaillard! We are thrilled that this wine has received the praise it deserves.
A silky and spicy, elegant, medium-bodied wine. Aromas of raspberry and bay leaf dominate the nose. An effortless entry leads to an explosive revolving tray of sage, tobacco leaf and cranberry flavours combining gracefully on the palate.
This Women’s Month, we are offering a special on Zinfandel: buy 9 bottles and receive 3 for free! That’s a case of 12 for the price of 9. Add 12 bottles to your cart and use the code ZINFANDEL12FOR9 when checking out. Valid until the end of August.
